Matrix is homed in south-eastern Pennsylvania. It came into existence as a musical experiment in about 2020.
Matrix is the brainchild of Thomas Hoermann, the son of a classical musician. He has been studying music all his life and has played and been influenced by many different styles. He plays most of the tracks he records and is skilled on guitar, bass, keyboards, and some wind instruments.
A fan of 70's prog rock, as well as modern styles he became interested in developing his own style when he became frustrated with the lack of attention to the compositional aspect of recording, even by many great performers. While continuing a career in aerospace engineering, he educated himself in audio engineering and built a studio to bring his ideas to life.
Using YouTube as a platform to share his music, his tracks have garnered thousands of views and one track has been reviewed by Professor Doug Helvering of the Daily Doug channel, who exclaimed, "Well, that was cool!" upon completion.
After recording a few tracks and developing some expertise, he next set out to complete a prog rock epic worthy of a concept album. Brother Mike was drafted to help with some of the composition and several guest soloists were tapped to add their own influence including Vai Stevens and Tommy Atkins.
The result of this effort is the completion of the album Mountain Legend, which tells a story of mystery, adventure and discovery, and, well, Bigfoot. A diverse range of musical styles are explored in this epic, from Rock, Jazz, Metal and Folk to Classical to name a few. To give this work the finish it deserved, expert mixing and mastering was achieved through a collaboration with John Mitchell of Asia, Frost, Lonely Robot and Arena. John's work in prog rock providing just the right touch to bring this masterpiece to fruition. The result is an album that both challenges and rewards the listener.
The album will be available for download and streaming in August 2024. Look for it on all major platforms.
